Acknowledgments

Yay, the Acknowledgements section. I've always looked forward to writing this part, because it's the only one where I'm told I can basically say anything I want, and still to away get it with.

I would first and foremost like to acknowledge myself. It's been five long, hard years since I entered MIT---four in hell, the other outside, yet close enough to feel the heat---and damn it, I did it. Also, my parents for being so supportive, and especially my mother for being a great inspiration.

Thesis stuff:

Very special---and sincere---thanks to Lucien Van Elsen, The One and Only God of OLC. Not only my supervisor, and an awesome Smash TV player, but from the very beginning an avid user and, more importantly, supporter, of Emacs OLCR and my work. It's unclear where EOLCR would be nowadays without his early and continuing support, both publicly and through the echelons of the not-so-supportive Management. Thanks, and May You Discover The Secret Of Killing The Two Deadly Snakes Without Pouring Two Dollars Worth Of Tokens Into The Damn Video Game.

Very special thanks to not only everyone using EOLCR, but also and especially to all those who have tried test versions, reported (and been patient in the face of) bugs, made suggestions, etc. In particular: Krishna ``Shamu the Chiller'' Sethuraman, Tom Palka, Keith ``I got this function . . .'' Swartz, Tim O'Malley, Jeff Tang, Derrick Kong, and everyone on the eolcr-testers mailing list. May Your Users Type RETURN At The End Of Every Line.

Thanks to Carla Fermann for producing the Prochart graph on OLC statistics.

Finally, thanks to Richard M. Stallman, author of GNU Emacs, the One True Editor. Emacs Rules. Period.

Other stuff:

Very, very, very, very, special thanks to the following people:

Sarah: you were right. The Cloud of Doom does eventually pass . . .

Brad: for being yourself. I owe you a lot more than you probably realize.

Dave: for teaching me much about martial arts, friendship, and Spanish. But more than that, for having a willing ear and being a true friend.

Denise: HI DENISE! You think too much!!! YAAAWWWPPP!!!!

Eileen: Yo BAAAAAAAAABE!!! I'm outta here!!!

Aaron: hey putz, I finished this EARLY, can ya believe that??? (Can anyone else believe that???)

Everyone else, including and especially those not understanding the obscure nerd references: Beware of the Leopard.

The section could not be completed without mention of the MIT Tae Kwon Do Club. It has been an integral part of my life at MIT, and where and who I am today is greatly due to the Club. To Young Soo, all the black belts, and all the members, past and current, thanks.

Finally, some NIN to bid MIT goodbye . . .

i cross my heart and hope to die
but the needle's already in my eye
and the whole world's weight is on my back
and i don't even know why
what i used to think was me
is just a fading memory
i looked him right in the eye
and said goodbye

i was up above it
now i'm down in it

rain rain go away come again some other day
rain rain go away come again some other day . . .

Now, if you all excuse me, I'm going to go take a nap.
